Meet the Candidate

I am Stephanie Wayment.

I grew up a Davis County resident, graduating from Viewmont High School. While attending the DATC during summer breaks in high school, I discovered accounting and knew that was my dream job, graduating with a bachelors degree from Weber State before I turned 21. I went on to earn a Masters in Business Administration from Utah State University by age 24.

I have over 20 years of accounting experience, including 8 years in government auditing. I know how budgets should be managed and how to demand accountability. I am now a Fractional CFO and small business owner, where I've helped small businesses navigate financial challenges and make every dollar count. I'll bring that same discipline to our county.

As a wife, mother, and friend, I have a personal stake in the future of this community. I want to build a fiscally sound government that finally breaks the cycle of repeated mistakes; a government rooted in integrity, transparency, courage, and responsibility.

The County Controller position should be earned through knowledge and experience, not political ideology. She should not be beholden to the same party leadership as all of the County Commissioners. She should not belong to their party so that she can provide adequate checks and balances pertaining to budgets for county services. The person managing our public funds should be the most qualified person on the ballot, and I am committed to being exactly that. This isn't about partisan beliefs. It's about results. It's about trust. It's about putting the right person in the right seat to protect our hard-earned tax dollars.

When you vote for me, you are choosing experience, accountability, and someone who will never take your trust for granted.

Why I am running…

I am tired of government failing the people it is supposed to serve.

My husband and I were born and raised in Davis County. Work opportunities took us to Idaho for a while, and 3 years ago we were able to came back. We purchased a brand new home. During construction, we found critical electrical code violations that we we brought to the attention of our builder, Destination Homes, and they refused to fix them because the city doesn’t care to enforce state adopted code.

We pleaded with the city to force Destination Homes to fix the problems, but the city shrugged us off. We filed a complaint with the state Division of Consumer Protections, which nearly a year later is still pending.

During the Truth in Taxation meetings last year for the proposed county tax increases, I saw obvious deficiencies in how the controller was managing county funds, things that I do not tolerate with the companies that I advise. I knew that someone new was needed to run the county controller office.

I am not a politician. I am an accountant. I cannot fix government’s inability and unwillingness to keep us safe. But I can balance budgets, say no to spending when there is no money, and make sure that tax dollars are accounted for.

I am pleased to report that Scott Parke, who became county controller right before the county tax increase was proposed, saw the same deficiencies I saw and has been implementing changes to bring the county finances under control. With either Scott or me as County Controller, you can trust that sound accounting principals will be adhered to.

The previous County Controller, and the current County Commissioner not up for election, are perfect examples of the Republican Party failing Davis County. This is what happens in a single party system. I am not beholden to the party that currently runs our county. We should expect more from our elected officials. A vote for me is a vote against the status quo and vote for checks and balances.

Volunteer with me!

I cannot do this alone. If you have gotten to this point of my website, I hope you are planning to vote for me, so why not help me get the word out to others! Why not wear my pin, help me at a community event you were already planning on attending, or tell your family, friends, neighbors, other community acquaintances why you plan on voting for me. Let me know how you are willing and ready to help get our county back on track. Together we can make this county what we want it to be.
